December 19, 2017

The Holiday season is upon us and the year of 2017 nears its end. It is a time of reflection and there is much to be thankful for in Fountain Valley. The City celebrated its 60th anniversary and celebrations were enjoyed through fireworks at Summerfest 2017 and a big parade. The City’s Police Department celebrated their 50th year anniversary with a well-attended Open House. In addition, December brought us the largest Tree Lighting event in the City's history with over 3,500 attending.

The passing of Measure HH last December created a new revenue source to balance the City budget and ensured that essential services could remain in place. Neighborhood streets were paved, Fire Station 2 remained open and Police Officers are being hired. City staff that had not had a meaningful pay raise for over 7 years were able to get a modest raise.

This year the City was impacted by a homeless encampment located along the river trail at the east side of the City limits. The City and the staff at the County of Orange, spent considerable time in discussions and then finally in November worked together to address the issue. Special thanks goes to the City’s Police force who worked hard to meet with affected residents and respond to issues that arose in the Community.

It was a good year for the City and Community spirit and support are alive and thriving in Fountain Valley. I look forward to 2018 being a another year of cooperation and success.
Have a great Holiday season!
